Inauguration of Indian Maritime Week 2025
Bhubaneswar: The Indian Maritime Week 2025 was officially launched by the Paradip Port Authority (PPA) on Wednesday, under the auspices of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW). The event featured a roadshow themed 'Navigating the Shift of Indian Maritime Sector: From Volume to Vision'.
Among the attendees were Industries Minister Sampad Chandra Swain, who served as the chief guest, along with MP Bibhu Prasad Tarai, additional chief secretary of the Industries department Hemant Sharma, and principal secretary of Housing and Urban Development Usha Padhee, as well as various industry leaders and stakeholders.
During his address, Swain underscored Odisha's ambition to establish itself as India's eastern maritime gateway, in line with the Viksit Bharat 2047 initiative.
He pointed out the importance of shipbuilding, ship recycling, and blue economy prospects, while also committing state support for Bahuda Port and shipbuilding projects in Kendrapara as part of the 'Viksit Odisha 2036' vision.
Padhee elaborated on Odisha's strategic plan, stating, 'Our goal is to increase capacity from 80 MTPA to 500 MTPA by 2047 through modernization, infrastructure development, and the establishment of a proposed Odisha Maritime Board. We must enhance women's participation to ensure inclusive growth.'
PPA chairman PL Haranadh announced that the upcoming India Maritime Week, set to take place in Mumbai from October 27 to 31, 2025, will welcome over 100 maritime nations, feature 200 speakers, 500 exhibitors, and attract around 100,000 delegates.
He also mentioned that the Ministry aims to secure MoUs worth Rs 10 lakh crore, with Paradip Port targeting over Rs 1 lakh crore, highlighting significant projects such as the proposed Bahuda Major Port (Rs 21,500 crore), the Mahanadi shipbuilding hub (Rs 24,700 crore), and a cruise terminal in Puri.
